Local SEO: what I would check before writing another page
My starting point: follow one customer journey from a local search to a genuine enquiry.
Start with one service and one place
My SEO work has included investigating 40K+ pages missing from sitemaps at ToursByLocals. That was a large marketplace problem, but the question behind it is useful for a small business too: can people reach the page that matters? Finding a gap comes before deciding to produce more content.
For a local business, I would choose one priority service and one area you actually serve. Then I would trace the route from your business profile to the relevant page and on to the enquiry. This is a review method, not a claim that every local business has the same problem.
Check the handoff
Imagine a mobile dog groomer whose profile describes home visits, but whose website only says “professional grooming.” A visitor still needs to know the service area, whether a suitable parking space is required and how to check availability.
I would resolve those missing answers before planning a general article about pet care. The customer already has a specific decision to make. The page should help them make it.
Keep a small gap list
- Find: does the profile or navigation lead to the right service?
- Understand: are the area, inclusions and important restrictions clear?
- Act: does the phone number, booking link or form work?
For each gap, record the page, the change needed and who can approve it. A broken booking link and a missing explanatory paragraph require different owners. “Improve local SEO” is too broad to assign.
Choose the fix that removes the most uncertainty
My priority would be a wrong fact or broken action first, a missing decision-making answer second, and additional content after that. This is an editorial and operational priority order, not a ranking formula.
Do not create a page for every neighbourhood just to repeat the same copy with a different place name. Decide whether you have something useful and accurate to explain for that area: availability, access, travel charges or a real example you can share.
Your next step
Open your main local service page on your phone. Pretend you have never heard of the business. Write down the first unanswered question that would stop you booking, then fix that answer. Explore local SEO support if you want help deciding where to start.
