Before paying for ads, check what happens after the click

My checklist for the offer, landing page and enquiry process before you pay for more attention.

Make the destination ready

My starting question for a paid campaign would be: if the right person arrives today, can they take the next step? A campaign brief needs a destination that explains the offer and a business ready to handle the response.

This is a preparation checklist, not a promise of a particular advertising return. The aim is to find avoidable confusion before spending money to bring more people to the page.

Carry one offer all the way through

Imagine an ad offering a consultation for a kitchen renovation. The landing page should explain that consultation, who it suits and how to request it. Sending someone to a broad gallery leaves them to work out the offer themselves.

I would compare the ad and page side by side: service, location, price conditions and call to action. Anything important in the ad should still make sense after the click.

Test the enquiry yourself

  • Open the page on a phone and read it without zooming.
  • Submit a test enquiry and confirm it reaches the right person.
  • Check the confirmation message explains what happens next.
  • Agree who responds and what happens outside working hours.

Use a clearly marked test and remove it from business reporting. A functioning form is only part of the process; the team also needs to recognize and handle the enquiry.

Agree on the cost of learning

Discuss advertising spend separately from setup, management, creative work and landing-page changes. Agree what the initial test is intended to learn, what you will measure and when you will review it.

I would avoid changing the offer, audience and page at the same time without a clear reason. Keep a change log so the review has context. If the business cannot yet identify a qualified enquiry, define that before treating all form submissions as success.

Your next step

Follow the entire route from the draft ad to the first reply a customer would receive. Fix one broken or unclear handoff before launch. Explore paid advertising support to discuss a focused campaign.
